Reflective Paragraphs Week 6 – 2 Corinthians 8-9

These chapters talk a lot about giving, collections and gifts. It almost seems like Paul’s blackmailing the Corinthians into giving by comparing them to the Macedonian churches. In the beginning of Chapter 8, “Aren’t those Macedonian churches so good? Aren’t they? They were struggling and they still wanted to give, those good little Macedonian churches.” And then he moves on to “Well, Christ gave”, and then to “Actually, we have this current need you might consider…” until the final blackmail (and back to the Macedonians) “I’ve told the Macedonians what generous givers you are, and you don’t want to lose face by proving me wrong, now, do you? Now, be good little Corinthian churches and give cheerfully.”
