Reflective Paragraphs Week 7 – Philemon

Philemon is just a very short letter, and was written for a very specific purpose: he’s writing to his friend Philemon, imploring him to take Onesimus, a rebel and a run-away slave who has recently become a Christian, back into his house, to welcome him as a brother in Christ, and to treat him just as he would Paul. Aside from this main point, Paul spends only three verses each greeting and farewelling Philemon, and four verses extending further social niceties of thanksgiving for Philemon’s existence; this is compared to fourteen verses about the impending return of Onesimus.
